Firstly, I’d like to recognise our president – Trish Cramer – for hosting the 2010 AGM, we all greatly appreciate your hospitality.

This meeting was attended by no less than 17 people, including new faces. The cooking demo by Jan Green was amazing, followed by Jill Weil who made some truly superb tropical fruit desserts and Harry Normand, one of the new faces, gave a yoga class in Trish’s living room.

We had an extended meeting, with an abundance of productive discussions; which unfortunately meant we couldn’t fit the design exercise or composting workshop into the afternoon. But, we will certainly deliver these activities soon.

One of the discussions led to a unanimous agreement that Permaculture Townsville (PcT) should play a more active role in reaching out to other communities and the general public. We’re now moving to secure a hand-held Camcorder for the group – enabling us to upload clips of local Permaculture sites and events.

There is a great opportunity on the table, for PcT to strike a partnership with James Cook University (JCU). This poses extremely exciting potential for community outreach, because the partnership would be founded on a community Permaculture garden and nursery at JCU’s Townsville Campus (more info on this will be issued soon, so keep an eye on our site if you’re interested).

Rod Smith attended the meeting and voiced is enthusiasm to coordinate a PcT Seed Bank. This idea, and the rest will be detailed further in out next Newsletter. The last details I’m disclosing are about the Executive Committee for 2010/2011.

The wonderful Diana Innes has been appointed as Treasurer for another term. Trish Cramer, our lovely President has been re-elected for another term. However, the position of Secretary, previously occupied by Murray Whiley has seen a change of hands. I (Leon van Wyk) have been appointed as Secretary for PcT.

Evidently, there are some exciting opportunities on PcT’s horizon!

I look forward to sharing more details with you soon.
